About Libellula croceipennis Selys, 1868
Libellula croceipennis reaches a total length of 54 to 59 millimeters, with the abdomen making up 32 to 39 millimeters of this length. In mature individuals, the face, front of the thorax, abdomen, and abdominal appendages are bright red. When viewed from the side, the thorax is brownish with a faint red tint and has no distinct markings. Young L. croceipennis are reddish-brown and have a yellow stripe running along the top of the abdomen. The hind wings measure 35 to 47 millimeters in length. Males have an amber-yellow tint at the base of both wings that extends out to the wing triangle. Females have transparent wings. The pterostigma is brown, and is approximately 6 millimeters long. The legs are brown, and bear black bristles. In females, the eighth abdominal segment is noticeably widened.
