About Leucozona lucorum (Linnaeus, 1758)

Leucozona lucorum typically has a wing length of 7.75–10 mm. Its face has yellow dusting on both sides of a shiny black central area. The thorax is yellowish-green and covered with long reddish hairs, while the scutellum is yellow. The abdomen is black, with long, abundant hairs that are partly pale yellow or whitish yellow, and partly black. A distinct brown spot is present on each wing. Illustrations of the male genitalia and larvae of this species were published by Dusek and Laska in 1967. A coloured illustration of the larva was published by Rotheray in 1994. See the cited references for support with species determination. Leucozona lucorum is widely distributed across both the Palearctic and Nearctic regions. In the Palearctic, it ranges from Fennoscandia south to the Pyrenees and northern Spain, and from Ireland east through northern and central Europe into Turkey, European Russia, the Russian Far East, Siberia, and the Pacific coast of Asia, including the Kuril Islands and Japan. It is a common species in England. In the Nearctic, it ranges from Alaska south to Oregon and New York.
