About Leucauge levanderi (Kulczyński, 1901)
Leucauge levanderi (Kulczyński, 1901) is a medium-sized spider species with an elongate abdomen. The posterior end of the abdomen has a small tip that extends slightly past the spinnerets, and the abdomen bears bright colours. The epigyne is keyhole-shaped, and male individuals have tubercles on their chelicerae. This species is distributed in Ethiopia, the Congo Republic, and South Africa. Within South Africa, it has been recorded in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Western Cape provinces. Leucauge levanderi builds orb-webs, and occurs across the Fynbos, Forest, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, Grassland, Savanna, and Thicket biomes, at altitudes between 15 m and 1,871 m.
