About Leucauge argyra (Walckenaer, 1841)
Leucauge argyra has three parallel lines running across its abdomen. These lines remain parallel only for the first half of the abdomen; past this point, the two outer lines bend inward, then continue running parallel for the remainder of the abdomen. The markings of this species can be somewhat variable. They differ distinctly from the markings of Leucauge venusta, which has inverted V-shaped markings on its abdomen. Females of L. argyra have an epigyne with a ventral projection, a trait that is unique to this species within its genus. Juvenile L. argyra build webs that include an upper tangle, connected to the web hub by threads. Occasionaly, these juveniles also have an additional tangle located below the orb section of the web. These tangles are completely absent from the webs of adult L. argyra. When present, the upper tangle only consists of a few threads, and covers just a narrow section across the middle of the orb web. A closely similar species to L. argyra is Leucauge mariana.
