About Leucadendron teretifolium (Andrews) I.Williams

This shrub, scientifically named Leucadendron teretifolium (Andrews) I.Williams, grows up to 1 metre (3.3 feet) tall and flowers between August and September. It is known as waterbossie in Afrikaans. The entire plant is killed by fire, but its seeds survive. The species is unisexual, meaning individual plants are either male or female, and pollination occurs via wind. Seeds are stored in a cone on female plants, and are released after fires. They are likely dispersed by wind after release. This plant grows in the Elimvlakte, Kleinrivierberge, Riviersonderendberge, Potberg, Bonteberg, Witteberg, Waboomsberg, and Langeberg regions. It grows primarily in Bokkeveld and Witteberg type soils, at elevations ranging from 0 to 1,350 metres (0 to 4,429 feet).
