About Leucadendron stelligerum I.Williams

Leucadendron stelligerum, commonly called the Agulhas conebush, is a flowering shrub in the genus Leucadendron that is part of the fynbos vegetation. This species is native to the Western Cape, South Africa, where its distribution ranges from Elim to the Agulhas Plain. It grows as a shrub reaching 2 meters in height, and flowers between July and August. Like many fynbos species, the entire plant dies after wildfires, but its seeds survive. Seeds are held in a cone on female plants, and are released to the ground after fire occurs, where they may be dispersed by wind. This species is unisexual, with separate individual plants that produce only male or only female flowers. Insects act as pollinators for the flowers. It grows on slopes in clayey soil, at elevations between 20 and 140 meters above sea level. In Afrikaans, it is called Agulhastolbos.
