About Leucadendron discolor H.Buek ex Meisn.

Leucadendron discolor is a plant species belonging to the Proteaceae family. It is endemic to the Cape Provinces of South Africa, and currently faces threat from habitat loss. It has the common name Piketberg Conebush in English, and Rooitolbos in Afrikaans. L. discolor is a slow-growing perennial plant. From seed germination to the plant's first flower, growth of the root system and propagation can take up to two years. The male cultivar 'Sunset' of this species flowers abundantly in early spring, when it displays a brightly colored flower head. This flower head has a dome-shaped receptacle, and is densely covered in small male flowers. Individuals of this species can only reproduce after they reach three years of age. With the help of new methods that support rooting, such as treatment with Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), the species has potential for commercial export.
