About Lestes viridulus Rambur, 1842
Lestes viridulus Rambur, 1842 is a medium-sized damselfly. Individuals of this species have brown-capped yellow eyes. Their thorax is khaki brown, fading to creamy white on the sides. The dorsum of the thorax bears two very narrow metallic green stripes that run closely parallel to the mid-dorsal carina. The wings are transparent, with pale brown pterostigma. The abdomen is yellowish brown on the sides, with metallic-green dorsal stripes that extend up to segment 8. Segment 9 has a dark dorsal mark on its basal half; the remaining half of segment 9, segment 10, and the anal appendages are pale yellow. Females are similar in appearance to males. This species can be easily distinguished from all other species in the genus Lestes by its uniform pale brown color and the pair of uniform-width metallic green dorsal stripes on its thorax. It is commonly found among dry grass in plains during the summer season, where it benefits from natural camouflage.
