Lestes plagiatus, first formally described by Burmeister in 1839, is a species of damselfly belonging to the Lestidae family, which is commonly called the spreadwings. It has three widely used common names: the highlands spreadwing, common spreadwing, and stream spreadwing. This species is native to a large portion of the southern half of Africa, where it has a widespread distribution. It has been officially recorded in Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, and it may also be present in Burundi. Individuals of this damselfly species inhabit areas located near pools, swamps, and streams.
