About Lestes macrostigma (Eversmann, 1836)

Lestes macrostigma reaches a maximum total length of 48 millimeters. It shares similarities with other common species in the genus Lestes, but differs from them by its darker body coloration and the presence of more blue pruinescence. This species has large, black pterostigmata. Its distribution spans a wide area, stretching from the western coasts of Europe through Central Asia to the Middle East. A large portion of its European range lies within the Mediterranean region, and its overall distribution is fragmented. The species is more abundant in the eastern parts of its range, and its overall abundance changes with local climate and weather. It is common in some areas, and rare or sometimes considered endangered in others. Lestes macrostigma is most commonly found around brackish water habitats, including coastal estuaries and salty inland lakes.
