About Lerodea eufala (Edwards, 1869)
Lerodea eufala, commonly known as the Eufala skipper or rice leaffolder, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species can be found ranging from the coast of Georgia, south through Florida, and west across the southern United States to southern California. It continues south through Mexico and Central America, reaching as far as Patagonia. During the summer, it expands its range northward to central California, North Dakota, southern Wisconsin, northern Michigan, and Washington, D.C. The wingspan of adult Lerodea eufala measures 25 to 32 mm. In the deep southern portion of its range, there are two generations per year, with adults active on wing from February to October. In Florida, southern Texas, and Arizona, multiple generations occur throughout the entire year. The larvae feed on a variety of grasses, including Sorghum halepense, Cynodon dactylon, and Saccharum officinarum. Adult butterflies feed on nectar from a range of flowers, including croton, alfalfa, composites, and lippia.
