About Leptostomum inclinans R.Br.

Leptostomum inclinans, commonly called the pincushion moss, is a species of moss that occurs in southeastern Australia, New Zealand, and the islands near these regions. Most often, this moss grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks, but it can also grow on soil or rocks. This moss has distinct defining traits: it has closely spaced stems and a dense covering of rhizoids. Its leaves feature an elongated, unbranched hairpoint, and the species is recognizable by its numerous inclined capsules that protrude on long setae. This structure gives the moss the overall appearance of a green pincushion.
