Leptosia alcesta, commonly known as the African wood white or flip flop, is a butterfly species that belongs to the Pieridae family. This species is found across Africa. Males of this species have a wingspan ranging from 30 to 40 mm, while females have a slightly larger wingspan between 35 and 42 mm. Adult Leptosia alcesta fly throughout the year, with their flight activity peaking between March and May. The caterpillar larvae of this species feed on plants from Ritchiea species, as well as Capparis fascicularis and Capparis brassii.
