About Leptopteris hymenophylloides (A.Rich.) C.Presl
Leptopteris hymenophylloides, commonly known as the single crepe fern, is a fern species belonging to the family Osmundaceae. It is endemic to New Zealand, where it occurs across multiple regions: in the North Island, it is found in Northland, Auckland, Volcanic Plateau, Gisborne, Taranaki, and Southern North Island; in the South Island, it occurs in Western Nelson, Sounds-Nelson, Marlborough, Westland, Canterbury Otago, and Southland Fiordland; it also grows on the Chatham Islands and Stewart Island. Its altitudinal range is 10 to 950 meters above sea level. This species has a predominantly northern distribution within New Zealand. It is abundant across much of the North Island, particularly in lowland and montane areas between 10 and 950 m, but it is uncommon in truly coastal regions, especially along the east coast and in Taranaki. In the South Island, it is more common in lowland regions, though it extends locally up to 925 m in montane areas of inland Marlborough, and it is absent from most of the high country.
