About Leptodactylus bufonius Boulenger, 1894
Leptodactylus bufonius, formally named Leptodactylus bufonius Boulenger, 1894, is a species of frog belonging to the family Leptodactylidae. Its known distribution covers Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. These are generalist frogs that can inhabit many different types of habitats. Within Brazil, populations have been recorded in the Amazonia, Pantanal, and Cerrado biomes. This species has been observed at elevations up to 800 meters above sea level. It demonstrates tolerance to human-caused disturbance. The species has been documented within many protected areas, including Mburucuyá National Park, Río Pilcomayo National Park, Defensores del Chaco National Park, Copo National Park, Salinas Grandes Provincial Park, Chancani Provincial Park, and Loro Hablador Provincial Park. For reproduction, male frogs of this species dig burrows near ponds to hold their eggs.
