About Leptobrachium abbotti (Cochran, 1926)
This species, scientifically named Leptobrachium abbotti (Cochran, 1926), is a stocky frog with a broad head, large eyes, short slender legs, and feet that have no webbing. Males grow to a maximum length of 75 mm, while females can reach up to 95 mm. The head, back, and sides of adults are brown or black, and the belly usually has a pattern of mixed black and white mottling. Individuals native to Sarawak may instead have an unmarked gray or white belly. By the time they reach metamorphosis, tadpoles of this species grow to a total length between 75 and 90 mm. Newly hatched tadpoles are pale brown or straw-colored, and gradually darken to a medium brown as they develop. As they mature, tadpoles grow black spots across their bodies and tails, following Inger and Stuebing 1997, and a black spot is always present at the junction where the trunk meets the tail.
