About Leptidea amurensis (Ménétriés, 1859)
Leptidea amurensis (Ménétriés, 1859) is found in the Amur region, North China, and Japan. The species is especially characterized by its elongated forewings. The upperside of the wings is white. Males have a larger blackish subapical patch, which is either absent in females, or much smaller and less distinct. The underside of the wings is white; the forewing has a yellowish apical spot, and the hindwing has grey shadow markings. The spring form vernalis Graes. is smaller and darker on the wing underside than the main form. The taxon vibilia Janson, 1878, now classified as a subspecies of Leptidea sinapis, occurs in northern Japan, has more pointed wings than L. amurensis, and is similar to duponcheli in markings and coloration. morsei Fenton is apparently an aberration of L. amurensis, in which the subapical spot on the upperside of the forewing is less developed.
