About Lepthyphantes minutus (Blackwall, 1833)
Lepthyphantes minutus (Blackwall, 1833) is a spider species that belongs to the family Linyphiidae. Contrary to what its species name suggests, it is one of the larger species within the Lepthyphantes genus. This species occurs across Northern Europe. Its body length, when legs are excluded, measures approximately 3 to 4 millimetres (0.12 to 0.16 inches). The carapace of this spider is dark brown. Its abdomen typically carries a black pattern marked with gold spots, and its legs have distinct ring-like bands, which sets this species apart from other similar species. The palpal patella of male Lepthyphantes minutus bears a large spine that is thicker than the spines found on the spider’s legs. Lepthyphantes minutus is most commonly found on tree trunks, underneath logs, or in areas around human houses.
