About Leptasterias polaris (Müller & Troschel, 1842)

Leptasterias polaris is a small, slow-growing, compact starfish that has six arms. Its aboral (upper) surface is covered in blunt spiny plates, and the surface is usually some shade of brown or grey. This species occurs in the northwest Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Maine northwards, and also in Arctic waters. It has additionally been found in the Azores and in European waters.
