About Lepidophyma flavimaculatum Duméril, 1851

Lepidophyma flavimaculatum, commonly known as the yellow-spotted tropical night lizard or yellow-spotted night lizard, is a species of night lizard belonging to the family Xantusiidae. Its range extends from central Mexico through Central America, reaching as far south as Panama, and the species includes two recognized subspecies. This lizard is a secretive, terrestrial, nocturnal species that inhabits tropical wet and moist forests, at altitudes ranging from sea level up to 1,500 meters (4,900 feet). It is most often found on the ground, but may occasionally be seen on tree trunks or under the bark of standing trees. It feeds on small invertebrates. Lepidophyma flavimaculatum reproduces via parthenogenesis. Females give birth to live, fully developed young lizards, and the egg cells are not fertilized before birth.
