About Leontocebus nigricollis (Spix, 1823)

The black-mantled tamarin, scientifically named Leontocebus nigricollis, is a saddle-back tamarin species that occurs in the northwestern Amazon region, specifically in far western Brazil, southeastern Colombia, northeastern Peru, and eastern Ecuador. This species has three recognized subspecies: Leontocebus nigricollis nigricollis (Spix's black mantle tamarin), Leontocebus nigricollis graellsi (Graells's tamarin, or Graells' black-mantle tamarin), and Leontocebus nigricollis hernandezi (Hernandez-Camacho's black-mantle tamarin).
