About Leiocephalus schreibersii (Gravenhorst, 1838)

Leiocephalus schreibersii, commonly called the Hispaniolan curlytail lizard, is also known by several other common names: the Hispaniolan khaki curlytail, the red-sided curlytail lizard, the red-sided curly-tailed lizard, and Schreibers's curly-tailed lizard. This species is a common lizard in the family Leiocephalidae. It is native to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which is shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and has an established introduced population in southern Florida. Two subspecies of this lizard are currently recognized. This species is indigenous to the main island of Hispaniola, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, as well as the nearby island Île de la Tortue. Its preferred natural habitat is shrubland, occurring at altitudes ranging from sea level up to 500 m (1,600 ft). Leiocephalus schreibersii is oviparous, active during the day, and feeds mainly on insects.
