About Lecithophorus capensis Macnae, 1958

This species, commonly called the ghost nudibranch, has the scientific name Lecithophorus capensis Macnae, 1958. The ghost nudibranch is an almost transparent nudibranch with a deep body and an opaque white margin along its body. A purple mass formed by its digestive system is visible at the back end of its body, and both its rhinophores and gills are white. This nudibranch species is endemic to the South African coast. It occurs on both sides of the Cape Peninsula, where it can be found from the intertidal zone down to at least 30 meters deep. Ecologically, the ghost nudibranch feeds on colonial sea squirts and bryozoans.
