Laurophyllus is a monotypic genus of dioecious shrubs. It belongs to the subfamily Anacardioideae, which is part of the Anacardiaceae (the cashew and sumac family). This genus contains only one species: Laurophyllus capensis. This species is endemic to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, where it grows on wooded hillsides and alongside streams.
