About Lauriea siagiani Baba, 1994

Lauriea siagiani is a small species of squat lobster that grows up to 7 millimetres (0.28 inches) in total length. It is the second recognized species in the genus Lauriea, and can be most easily distinguished from the only other genus member, Lauriea gardineri, by its distinct coloration. Lauriea gardineri is pale brown with darker colored bands across its body, while Lauriea siagiani is orange or pink, with red or purplish markings. In terms of distribution and ecology, Lauriea siagiani lives in association with the giant sponge Xestospongia testudinaria. Confirmed records of this species exist from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan.
