Launaea sarmentosa (Willd.) Sch.Bip. ex Kuntze is a perennial herb that belongs to the plant family Asteraceae. This species is native to the east coast of Africa, Madagascar, the Seychelles, Mauritius, India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Southeast Asia, specifically native to the coastal regions of these areas. It has become naturalized in Western Australia. In the Maldives, this plant is known as Kulla-filaa (IAST: Kuḷḷafilā, ކުއްޅަފިލާ in Maldivian). For centuries, it has been used as a food plant in the Maldives, and is included in local dishes such as mas huni. It is also used as a medicinal plant there.
