About Lastarriaea coriacea (Goodman) Hoover

Lastarriaea coriacea (Goodman) Hoover is a species of flowering plant in the buckwheat family, commonly known as leather spineflower. It is native to California and adjacent northern Mexico, where it is a common plant found across many habitat types. This plant is an annual herb that forms a patch of stems, which grow flat along the ground or rise slightly to reach a maximum height near 15 centimeters. Its small leaves grow basally, at the point where stems emerge from the ground. The leaves are generally hairy, linear in shape, and no longer than 3 centimeters. Stems branch into wide inflorescences that hold pointed bracts and flowers with spiky awns.
