This ant species, scientifically named Lasius americanus, can be described as follows. Worker individuals of Lasius americanus are usually a dusty brown shade, with lighter, semi-translucent legs. Their antennae lack any erect setae (stiff, hair-like structures). The propodeum and back legs typically have very few erect setae near their base. This species, commonly called woodland fuzzy ant, is distributed across North America, with the highest populations in southern Canada and the eastern United States. It most commonly inhabits temperate forests and woodlands, and is usually found under rotting wood or inside trees.
