About Lantanophaga pusillidactylus (Walker, 1864)
Lantanophaga pusillidactylus (Walker, 1864), commonly known as the lantana plume moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Pterophoridae. This species is native to the southern United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America. It has also been recorded in Cape Verde, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Réunion, South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Seychelles, Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, Israel, Morocco, India, Indonesia (Java), New Guinea, and Sri Lanka. The wingspan of adult moths ranges from 11 to 14 mm. Adult individuals feed on flowers, and lay their eggs inside flower heads. The larvae of this species feed on plants from the following species: Lantana camara, Lantana montevidensis, Lantana hispida, Lantana peduncularis, Lantana indica, Lantana involucrata, Lippia alba, Phyla nodiflora, Phyla lanceolata, Caperonia palustris, and species in the Mentha and Utricularia genera.
