About Lamprotornis regius (Reichenow, 1879)

Lamprotornis regius, commonly known as the golden-breasted starling, reaches an adult body length of approximately 35 centimeters (14 inches). Adult individuals of this species have a metallic green head and upper back, a bright golden yellow breast and belly, a dark bill, dark legs, a white iris, and metallic violet blue coloration on the wings, back, neck, and long tail feathers. The two sexes are similar in appearance, while juvenile birds are duller in color than adults. The golden-breasted starling has a very large distribution range. It is found in northeastern Africa, occurring across Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and northern Tanzania. This species inhabits grassland, savannah, acacia thickets, dry-thorn forests, and shrubland.
