This starling species, Lamprotornis fischeri, has no recognized subspecies. Adult individuals measure 18 cm (7.1 in) in length and weigh approximately 51 g (1.8 oz). Their plumage is mostly dull ash-grey, with the exception of a white lower chest, belly, and undertail. Adults have a white iris and a dark bill, and males and females look identical. Juveniles differ from adults: they have browner plumage, a brown iris, and a dull yellow lower mandible. The species produces several distinct calls. Its most commonly heard call is a wheezing cree-wee-creewoo, and it also makes a loud whistle and a metallic song.
