About Lamprotornis bicolor (Gmelin, 1789)

This species of starling, Lamprotornis bicolor, measures 27–28 cm (11 in) in length. Adults have primarily black plumage with a dull gloss; the only exceptions are the white lower belly and undertail. Adults also have a white iris and a yellow lower mandible. The plumage and other traits do not differ between males and females. Juveniles have unglossed plumage, a brown iris, and a dull yellow lower mandible. No subspecies of this species are recognized. Lamprotornis bicolor produces multiple types of calls, the most commonly heard of which is a skeer kerrra kerrra call. It also produces a soft warbling song.
