Lambis scorpius, first described by Linnaeus in 1758, has an adult shell that ranges in size from 95 millimeters to 220 millimeters. This species is distributed in the Indian Ocean off the coasts of Chagos, Madagascar, Kenya, and Tanzania, as well as in the Western Pacific Ocean and off the Philippines.
