About Lagophylla glandulosa A.Gray
Lagophylla glandulosa is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, commonly known by the name glandular hareleaf. This species is endemic to California, where it grows in the Central Valley and its surrounding foothills, within chaparral, grassland, and woodland habitats. It is an annual herb that produces a very thin stem covered in glandular hairs; glandular hairs are particularly dense on the upper section of the stem where the inflorescence forms. Most leaves on the upper portion of the stem are small, have smooth unbroken edges, and are covered in glandular hairs. Much larger leaves with toothed edges grow toward the base of the plant. The inflorescence holds flower heads that each contain five bright yellow ray florets, and every ray floret has three lobes. The center of each flower head holds six yellow disc florets that have black anthers. The fruit produced by the plant is a dark brown achene that lacks a pappus.
