About Laemanctus serratus Cope, 1864
Laemanctus serratus can be identified by enlarged triangular scales along the back edge of its head casque, and a serrated middorsal crest. This species occurs across multiple Mexican states: Campeche, Chiapas, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Yucatán. It is also found in Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. Its preferred natural habitat is forest, and it reproduces via oviparity, laying eggs that develop and hatch outside the parent's body.
