About Laelia albida Bateman ex Lindl.

Laelia albida Bateman ex Lindl. is the northernmost growing species of Laelia found in Mexico. This is an epiphytic orchid that produces ten or more small pale pink flowers, each measuring about 5 cm across. The flowers grow on a terminal inflorescence that reaches half a meter in length, and bloom from late winter to early spring. This orchid is cold-tolerant, able to survive temperatures close to freezing during winter. It needs to be kept dry until new vegetative growth appears in late spring. It grows much better when mounted on cork or hardwood than when grown in a pot. Two different counts have been reported for the diploid chromosome number of Laelia albida: 2n = 42 and 2n = approximately 63.
