About Ladeania lanceolata (Pursh) Reveal & A.N.Egan

This plant is scientifically known as Ladeania lanceolata (Pursh) Reveal & A.N.Egan. It is a perennial herb with a branching, heavily glandular stem that reaches 30 to 60 centimeters in height. Its leaves are palmately compound, and each leaf typically consists of three linear or lance-shaped leaflets that grow on a short petiole. The inflorescence takes the form of a raceme of flowers that emerges from a leaf axil. Each individual flower is less than one centimeter long, with a pealike corolla that ranges in color from light purple-blue to white. The fruit it produces is a hairy, glandular, spherical legume. Among the Zuni people, the fresh flowers of this plant are eaten to treat stomachaches as a traditional use.
