The Balkan green lizard, with the scientific name Lacerta trilineata Bedriaga, 1886, is a lizard species belonging to the family Lacertidae. It is the most widespread lizard species found in the Balkans. This species occurs in Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Palestine, Syria, and Turkey. Its natural habitats include Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, sandy shores, arable land, pastureland, plantations, and rural gardens. It faces threats from habitat loss. For Greek populations of this species, the reproductive cycle of both males and females runs from April to July. Both sexes reach sexual maturity when their body size reaches approximately 80 millimeters.
