About Labrisomus nuchipinnis (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824)

Labrisomus nuchipinnis, commonly known as the hairy blenny, is a species of labrisomid blenny. It is native to the Atlantic Ocean, ranging from the coast of the Americas to the African coast. This species favors habitats that provide crevices and holes for shelter, including areas with rock or rubble substrates, reefs, and seagrass beds. It can be found in shallow water as shallow as a few centimeters deep down to a depth of 10 metres (33 ft), though it is much rarer in waters deeper than 5 metres (16 ft). The hairy blenny is carnivorous, and preys on animals including crustaceans, gastropods, echinoderms such as urchins and brittle stars, polychaete worms, and other fishes. This species can reach a maximum total length of 23 centimetres (9.1 in). It is also available in the aquarium trade.
