About Kyphosus cinerascens (Forsskål, 1775)

Adults of the topsail sea chub, Kyphosus cinerascens, grow up to 45 cm in length. Their coloration can be blue-grey, brown, or black, and they are a pale fish with dark lines separating the rows of scales. This species of sea chub is distributed across the Indo-central Pacific, the Atlantic Ocean, multiple locations near the Greater Caribbean, and some areas of Brazil. It regularly forms aggregations and resides on hard, algal-coated bottoms of exposed, surf-swept outer reef flats, lagoons, and seaward reefs. It is commonly found at depths of 24 to 45 meters near these rocky areas, and its habitat falls within Equatorial, Tropical, and Subtropical climate zones.
