About Kyonemichthys rumengani Gomon, 2007
Kyonemichthys rumengani, commonly called the thread pipefish and known by the Japanese standard name Hari-youji, is a species of pipefish. It is the only known member of the genus Kyonemichthys. This species reaches a maximum total length of 2.68 cm (1.06 in). Originally described from specimens found around Indonesia in the Pacific Ocean, it occurs at depths between 15 and 20 meters (49 and 66 feet). It is thought to be widespread across the Indo-Pacific, with confirmed records from the Red Sea off Egypt, the Ryukyu Islands, the Philippines, Fiji, the Mariana Islands, and Papua New Guinea. It inhabits mixed environments on shallow coastal reefs, and has been observed using bryozoans, hydroids, and debris as holdfasts to orient itself.
This species was first formally described by Gomon in 2007.
