About Koumansetta hectori (Smith, 1957)

Hector's goby, scientifically named *Koumansetta hectori* (Smith, 1957), is a species of goby. Its native range extends from the Indian Ocean, which includes the Red Sea, east to the islands of Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean. This fish lives on sheltered coral reefs at depths between 3 and 30 metres, or 9.8 to 98.4 feet, though it is most commonly found between 5 and 20 metres, or 16 and 66 feet. The species grows to a maximum standard length of 8.5 centimetres, or 3.3 inches. Hector's goby is available in the aquarium trade. This species' specific name honors Gordon Hector, born 1918, who was Chief Secretary to the Government of the Seychelles. The name was given in gratitude for Hector's assistance to Smith during Smith's research work in the Seychelles.
