The Sonora mud turtle, scientifically named Kinosternon sonoriense Le Conte 1854, is a turtle species that belongs to the Kinosternidae family. This species is native to both Mexico and the United States. One subspecies, the Sonoyta mud turtle (Kinosternon sonoriense longifemorale), is currently recognized as a valid subspecies. Within Mexico, the Sonora mud turtle occurs in the states of Chihuahua and Sonora. Within the United States, it occurs in Arizona and New Mexico, and it has been extirpated from California.
