About Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus, 1766)

The scorpion mud turtle, scientifically named Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus, 1766), is a medium to large kinosternid, or mud turtle. It has a domed, oval upper shell that measures 92–270 mm (3.6–10.6 in) in length, and males regularly grow longer than 200 mm. This species is a highly aquatic, adaptable kinosternid that can live in almost any body of water. Females are thought to lay between 1 and 6 hard-shelled eggs. Like many other kinosternids, they are thought to build a shallow terrestrial nest with very little cover.
