About Katha depressa (Esper, 1786)
Kathaea depressa (Esper, 1786) has a forewing length between 15 and 17 millimeters. All wings are dark brownish grey, with the forewing costa and wing fringes being a light bright yellow, and this yellowing is most prominent in females. The base wing color is often partially or fully lightened with ochreous tones. It may appear almost clay-colored (the form ochreola Hbn.), nearly whitish (the form helveola Ochs.), or an intermediate, undefined shade (the form luteola Hbn.). The form pavescens Butl., found in Hokkaido (also called Island of Yezo), has dirty greyish yellow wings, with lighter hindwings than the forewings. This species ranges from western Europe eastward across the Palearctic region, including northern Asia Minor, Crimea, Abkhazia, Transcaucasia, southern Siberia, Middle Amur, Primorye, Sakhalin, Kunashir, and Zhejiang, extending as far east as Korea and Japan.
