About Kalidasa lanata (Drury, 1773)

Kalidasa albiflos is a planthopper species belonging to the family Fulgoridae that is found in India. This species was previously known under the scientific name Kalidasa lanata (Drury, 1773). A proposal has been made to rename it to Kalidasa albiflos, which goes against the principle of taxonomic priority. This name change became necessary because the original name Kalidasa lanata was first described as Cicada lanata, and this name conflicts with an earlier use of the name Cicada lanata published by Linnaeus in 1758. To avoid creating a taxonomic homonym, researchers selected the next available synonym that follows the priority order. Members of this species have a slender, flexible stalk-like outgrowth that grows from above the tip of the snout.
