About Justicia longii Hilsenb.

Justicia longii, commonly called longflower tube tongue, is an herbaceous perennial subshrub belonging to the Acanthaceae plant family. It grows in the Arizona Upland section of the Sonoran Desert. This species can also be found in the Sierra de La Libertad area of Baja California's central desert, and in Sonora, Mexico. Each of Justicia longii's white flowers opens in the evening and survives for only one night. By the next morning, the corollas drop from the plant, covering the ground below with a carpet of white fallen blooms. It has an extended bloom season that runs from April through October.
