Its native distribution specifically includes Angola, Bangladesh, Botswana, South Africa, Eswatini, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zimbabwe. It has been introduced to Colombia, Costa Rica, Guyana, Panama, the Solomon Islands, Hawaii, and New Caledonia. It is also found in the tropical regions of China, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. It commonly grows in wastelands, hedges, and ravines.
