About Junonia tugela (Trimen, 1879)

Precis tugela, commonly known as the African leaf butterfly or eared commodore, is a butterfly species in the Nymphalidae family. Its scientific name is also often listed as Junonia tugela (Trimen, 1879), as it is commonly placed in the genus Junonia instead of Precis. This butterfly is found in eastern and southern Africa, with a distribution that stretches from Ethiopia to South Africa. Males of this species have a wingspan of 55–60 mm, while females have a wingspan of 58–64 mm. The larvae feed on Plectranthus species and Englerastrum scandens.
