About Jorunna funebris (Kelaart, 1858)

Jorunna funebris (Kelaart, 1858), commonly known as the dotted nudibranch, is a species of sea slug. It is a dorid nudibranch, which means it is a shell-less marine gastropod mollusc that belongs to the family Discodorididae. The genus Jorunna contains roughly 15 other species of nudibranchs, all of which feed on a variety of sponges. This species was first described from specimens collected in Sri Lanka. It has a wide distribution across the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean along the East African coast to Australia, New Caledonia, and Hawaii. Jorunna funebris preys only on sponges that are part of the genus Xestospongia, so the distribution of this sea slug closely matches the distribution of Xestospongia sponges.
